Carl Anton Wirth
1912-1986
His Music serves as his most eloquent biographer. As the lucky recipients of such a large proportion of his creative output, we saxophonists should indeed be grateful.

Carl Anton Wirth, Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Eastman School of Music, earned the Bachelors and Masters degrees under the tutelage of Howard Hanson and Bernard Rogers. Upon graduation he taught at Iowa State Teachers College, a position he left to persue a short, but sucessful career as the first organic farmer in Michigan.

As a conductor and arts activist Mr.Wirth founded The Twin Cities Symphony, The Rochester Symphony Orchestra, The Indonesian National Symphony, The Rochester City Music Program, The Central Sierra Arts Council, the Trimble-Wirth Duo, and was an early officer in the American Symphony League.

His compositions have been performed by the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Ballet and many other orchestras throughout the world. He composed 34 pieces for the saxophone from Concerti to several Indonesian inspired works, which would make Carl Anton Wirth one of the most prolific composers for saxophone in the world!
